Mother Tongue Fortnight 2026
Connecting Cultures, Inspiring Hearts
Mother Tongue Fortnight 2026 was a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and connection, inspiring students to appreciate the beauty and relevance of their Mother Tongue languages through meaningful and engaging experiences. Through activities such as Chinese knot tying, calligraphy, rangoli art, henna drawing, and traditional games, students explored diverse cultural traditions while gaining a deeper appreciation of Singapore’s rich multicultural heritage.
The fortnight featured a wide range of interactive and collaborative programmes, including the Mother Tongue Symposium, Master Programme, Mystery Games, and Youth Bilingual Discourse.
These platforms encouraged students to communicate confidently, solve problems collaboratively, and build new friendships using their Mother Tongue languages. Music sessions featuring nostalgic Xinyao songs further strengthened students’ connection to local Chinese culture and heritage through storytelling and song.
More than a cultural celebration, this year's celebrations fostered creativity, strengthened school spirit, and reaffirmed the enduring value of bilingualism. Ethnic showcases, investigative challenges, traditional games, and learning journeys provided immersive opportunities for students to experience their Mother Tongue languages in authentic and meaningful contexts. Through moments of play, creativity, and cultural expression, learning became both memorable and impactful.
Students shared that the programme deepened their understanding of Mother Tongue cultures and increased their confidence and interest in using the language in their daily lives. Beyond language learning, Mother Tongue Fortnight 2026 nurtured curiosity, cultural awareness, and a stronger sense of identity among students.
Mother Tongue Fortnight 2026 demonstrated that learning can be both rigorous and joyful - where meaningful connections are forged, critical thinking is encouraged, and every student is empowered to grow as a confident bilingual learner.
