1. What is ‘A’ Level Further Mathematics?
H2 Further Mathematics is an advanced course for students who are highly motivated and mathematically inclined. It builds on H2 Mathematics and introduces topics such as linear algebra, numerical methods, differential equations, and advanced statistics, offering a deeper and broader understanding of mathematics.
The subject develops strong analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills, helping students connect ideas and apply mathematics to real-world contexts.
Offered together with H2 Mathematics as a double mathematics programme, it gives students a head start in mathematically intensive university courses like mathematics, physics, engineering and computer science.
2. How is H2 Further Mathematics taught at SAJC?
At St Andrew’s Junior College, H2 Further Mathematics is conducted entirely through full classroom teaching, providing an interactive and supportive learning environment. Lessons go beyond the H2 Mathematics syllabus, exploring advanced topics such as mechanics, matrices, and statistical modelling.
Students engage actively in discussions, problem-solving, and collaborative learning. Teachers emphasise reasoning, communication, and proof, building students’ fluency and confidence in tackling complex problems.
This approach nurtures intellectual curiosity and resilience, fostering a close learning community where students are inspired to pursue excellence together — true to the SAJC spirit of Up and On.
3. What can I do to prepare myself for H2 Further Mathematics?
Students should first strengthen their foundation in H2 Mathematics, mastering algebra, calculus, trigonometry, and statistics. Focus on understanding key concepts rather than rote memorisation.
Cultivate good learning habits and a growth mindset — be curious, persistent, and proactive in revisiting challenging topics. Regular practice and reflection help build accuracy and confidence.
To deepen appreciation, explore mathematics beyond the syllabus through readings, competitions, or real-world applications. Approach the subject with an open and inquisitive mind — H2 Further Mathematics is demanding but deeply rewarding for those who love challenge and discovery.
⚠️Note: H2 Further Mathematics is only offered when there is sufficient demand.
